Bioenegy Lagoon

The main goals of the project are: to determine the microbial diversity, to identify the hydrogen-producing bacteria using 16S rRNA next-generation sequencing technology and RNA genes expressed in the hydrogen production pathways and, finally, to isolate bacterial consortia with greatest potential to produce hydrogen in bioreactors.

Genomic biodiversity and planktonic dynamics in the in the euphotic zone of ASPSP, Trindade Island and Martim Vaz Islands using the sailing boat ECO UFSC60

The main goals of the project are: to analyse the planktonic community diversity within the euphotic zone of the oceanic islands, to correlate the data with carbon and nitrogen biogeochemical cycles, and to understand the role of physical processes in these offshore regions.

Picophytoplankton distribution across the South/Southeast Brazilian Continental Shelf

The main goals of the project are: identify the vertical and horizontal distribution of the main groups of phytoplankton; observe if there is any relationship with the dominant water masses and the patterns throughout the  fronts, and coastal upwellings.

Latitudinal patterns in the diveristy, biomass and abundance of bacteria associated with algal turfs in reef environments

The main goals was to observed if the latitudinal pattern observed globally for planktonic microbes repeats with bacteria from reef forming environments using DGGE (Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis).
